Parental Job Loss, Income Shocks and the Education Enrolment of Youth

In this paper, the author attempts to identify parental income shocks that are most likely to be persistent and exogenous, and examine whether these particular shocks have significant effects on youth education outcomes.Parental job loss from layoffs and business failures that occur when youth complete high school completion are found to be negatively correlated with enrollment at university and community college.
