Two countries, Colombia and Thailand, deployed unremunerated reserve requirements (URR) in the second half of the decade to respond to massive inflows of capital, capital that their financial systems found difficult to absorb. This paper analyzes the extent to which those URRs were successful in reducing the overall level and composition of capital inflows, reducing exchange rate appreciation and volatility, stemming asset bubbles, and granting more independence for monetary policy.

Estimating welfare in insurance markets using variation in prices
0
stanford.edu
-
This paper provides a graphical illustration of how standard consumer and producer theory can be used to quantify the welfare loss associated with inefficient pricing in insurance markets with selection. It then shows how this welfare loss can be estimated empirically using identifying variation in the price of insurance. Such variation, together with quantity data, allows us to estimate the demand for insurance.

"It is widely believed that the practice of securitization is one of the causes that led to the 2007–08 financial crisis. In this paper, I show that securitized products such as collateralized debt obligations (CDO) are particularly vulnerable to systematic risk and tend to show higher tail risk. These characteristics, in turn, are closely associated with joint failures and systemic risk. In order to achieve greater stability of the financial system, it is important to prevent the recurrence of

Impact of Micro-Credit on Women’s Empowerment in Bangladesh
0
