This Guide describes what capacity development is and how UNFPA is applying it in specific countries. The first chapter provides an overview of capacity development and some basic definitions; the second highlights examples of practice in action from the field; and the third consists of a series of tools and resources that maybe useful when developing and implementing capacity development programmes. Lessons are derived from UNFPA experiences working with individuals in Guyana, Mongolia and Senegal; with organizations in Bangladesh, Costa Rica, Dijibouti, Madagascar, Mexico and the Philippines. Subjects range from using telemedicine to reach women in remote areas of Mongolia to integrating sexual and reproductive health and HIV and AIDS care in Kenya.
