Environmental water use in New South Wales-Annual Report

This annual report focuses on the environmental outcomes achieved through the effective use of environmental water held for release at the discretion of an environmental water manager, including licensed environmental water recovered through programs such as RiverBank and the Rivers Environmental Restoration Program. In 2009–10, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) delivered 122,977 megalitres of environmental water with 57,418 ML of this coming from the Commonwealth Environmental Water Holder. Examination of these environmental watering events demonstrates how the successful planning of water releases has achieved targeted ecological outcomes, such as a boost to waterbird breeding and improvement in the condition of wetland and floodplain vegetation and habitat.
