Global Aids Response Progress Report 2012, Barbados

This report was prepared in collaboration with a broad cross section of stakeholders from government, private and civil society organizations (CSO); including faith-based organizations (FBOs). The HIV/AIDS epidemic in Barbados commenced with the first two reported cases occurring in 1984.Anti-retroviral therapy was introduced into Barbados in 2002 as part of the Government’s expanded response to HIV/AIDS. Between 2001 and the end of 2010, there was a dramatic decline in mortality rates from 10% to 2% among persons living with HIV (PLHIV) which mainly attributed to the availability of Anti-retrovirals.
