On January 12, 2010 a devastating 7.0 earthquake rocked Haiti, leaving thousands dead. The national parliament, the presidential palace and thousands of schools, hospitals and homes have collapsed. Nearly 3 million people have been affected and government sources fear that over 100,000 people may be dead. Many aid groups including the International Red Cross, Oxfam, Doctors Without Borders etc have launched relief operations and are gathering supplies.
