The Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society (IMPACS) is a registered not-for-profit charitable organization started in Canada and committed to the expansion and protection of democracy and the strengthening of civil society. Its goal is to support the collective action of strong communities by providing communications training and services to Canadian not-for-profit organizations, and by supporting free, open and accountable media internationally. IMPACS' work is carried out through three main activity centres: 1] The Communications Centre, which provides a range of communication training, skills development tools, services and materials; 2] The Charities and Democracy Project, through which laws are evaluated for appropriate advocacy activities by Canadian charities; 3] The International Media Program, designed to foster the development of free, critical and effective media worldwide, and to enhance the media's role in the process of democratic development, good governance, and public sector accountability and transparency. IMPACS' activities are implemented by staff located in Afghanistan, Cambodia and Sri Lanka.
