The Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency commissioned a consultancy study by Energetics, to investigate the implications of including energy generation in future building standards to inform the development of the National Building Energy Standard Setting, Assessment and Rating Framework.
The report investigates the broad implications of allowing new residential and commercial buildings to achieve energy efficiency standards by offsetting the energy use of the building by the use of energy generated by zero and low emission energy generation (ZLEG) systems that supply the building. The methodology employed in producing the report incorporated literature reviews of existing measures, modelling future projected ZLEG system uptake and stakeholder feedback through consultations.
