In May 2010, the Society of American Foresters (SAF) created a new task force to address those issues and analyze United States’ forests, climate change, and energy policies. This article summarizes and examines our current understanding of forest carbon stocks and flows; climate–forest interactions; biomass use and feedstock issues; wood–fossil fuel substitution effects; and forest carbon policies.
