The PanAfrican
Research Agenda on the Pedagogical Integration of Information and Communication
Technologies (Phase 2, 2009-2011) lead researchers’ meeting is scheduled to
take place in Dakar, Senegal on the 8th of December
2009. This event will introduce lead researchers and the scientific committee
the project activities for the 2009-2011 period. Lead researchers will be from
the 12 participating countries (Cameroon,
Central African Republic,
Congo Brazzaville, Côte D’Ivoire, Tunisia,
Ghana, Kenya, Mali,
Mozambique, Senegal, South
Africa, and Uganda). The scientific committee
members (Prof Tchombe
Therese, Dr Abdoulaye Barry, and Dr Nancy Hafkin) will be
present.
PanAf Phase 2’s
principal strategies to support scientific publication based in Observatory
data include a series of three writing workshops where participants, in small
groups (2-3 country teams per workshop) will proceed from the first stages of
writing, to the submission of an article for publication.
The first series
of the three writing workshops will take place on the 9th of December 2009,
with participants from Côte d’Ivoire,
Mali, Senegal and Tunisia. Through this strategy, in
the two years of Phase 2 (2009-2011), the PanAf network aims to support the
development of evidence-based scientific articles on the pedagogical
integration of ICTs in Africa.
According to
Prof Tchombe, with regard to the writing workshops she indicates that “What
will be of interest is the extent to which access to the Observatory can
provide a mechanism for improving teacher preparation; based on the knowledge
of teachers' degree of use or absence of use, what lessons can be learnt that
can help in the restructuring of initial teacher education programme and
provide strategy for capacity building through in-service. Programme design for
initial and in-service programmes could be of interest also and should generate
more interest for teacher educators and researchers who can engage in
quasi-experimental research”.
