Special Issue on the Tuskeegee Study

The Journal of Healthcare, Science and the Humanities highlights the 80th anniversary of the Tuskeegee study with special articles, reviews, and commentaries. The Tuskeegee study was a  longitudinal study of untreated patients infected with syphilis which continued for many decades.

The Tuskeege study is generally regarded as having been conducted in an unethical manner. It has received considerable recent attention in the past few years since it came to light that similar studies were conducted in Guatemala with financing from the governments of Guatemala and the United States.
