This volume is the direct result of the establishment of the Educational Research Institutes Network in the Asia-Pacific (ERI-Net). The case studies concurred that the impact of the global economic crisis on higher education was not as severe as anticipated. In some countries, public investment on education has increased as a result of various stimulus packages. This, in part, can be attributed to the countries’ recognition of higher education’s potential contribution to economic growth. However, more in-depth studies are needed to provide mid- to long-term perspectives on issues such as access to higher education and public-private partnership since the economic downturn will influence household incomes and funding from government.
