The World Bank Group and Lebanon: A country study

The study discusses the recent involvement of the Bank in Lebanon such as during the reconstruction phase following the 2006 war and during the political crisis that paralyzed the country between 2006 and 2008. It also discusses the Bank’s current strategy for Lebanon and its portfolio of public and private sector investments in the country. In addition to providing information on the Bank’s role in Lebanon, the study takes a critical position on some of the Bank’s policies and activities in the country such as its push for privatization of public utilities in the aftermath of the 2006 war and its current strategy for Lebanon which lacks concrete solutions for poverty concentration in the North and South. Moreover, the study provides civil society and affected communities with information and tools to allow them to influence the Bank and hold it accountable to its development commitments and push for more transparency in development decisions overall.
