Tobacco and ethnic minorities

According to the 2001 census, the size of the ethnic minority population in the United Kingdom was 4.6 million, representing 7.9 per cent of the total population. Smoking rates vary considerably between ethnic groups. In men, compared to the general population, rates are particularly high in the Black Caribbean (37%) and Bangladeshi (36%) populations but these differences are explained by socioeconomic differences between the groups.
