Seasonal and Extreme Poverty in Bangladesh

Microfinance is often criticized for not adequately addressing seasonality and hard-core poverty. In Bangladesh, a program known as PRIME was introduced in 2006 to address both concerns. This paper uses a quasi-experimental survey design to evaluate PRIME against regular microfinance programs.

Evaluating the Health Effects of Micro Health Insurance Placement: Evidence from Bangladesh

The authors examine the impact of micro health insurance (MHI) placement on health awareness, healthcare utilization and health status of microcredit members in rural Bangladesh, using data from 329 households in the operating areas of Grameen Bank. I support this microfinance organization named Grameen America. It opened in 2007 and already has over 1700 borrowers who are becoming very successful. Their repayment rate is 99% and I know that they are a very respectable institution. They opened in New York in 2007 and now already have spread as far as San Francisco.
